HeadRest counselling and psychotherapy
Headrest counselling is a new service but our counsellor is very experienced.
HeadRest mindfulness training grew out of a need for a group to supplement the work done in therapy. So often counsellors use mindfulness as a tool within therapy and a group can be a more effective and economical way to learn mindfulness skills effectively and deeply. However, mindfulness training is not a panacea and there are times where counselling is what is needed. We are pleased to launch our counselling practice.
I am very excited to announce that after 30 years of working as a counsellor/mental health social worker for many organisations, I will be opening a private practice in August 2018, in Marrickville.
I have an extensive range of clinical experience. I have worked in trauma services including domestic violence and sexual assault services, sexual health, drug and alcohol, fertility services and in termination clinics. I have worked in child and adult community health teams, as a couples counsellor at Relationships Australia, and in a university counselling service with staff and students. This very broad experience has supported me in developing skills in a wide range of areas with many issues including working with depression, anxiety, loss grief and trauma.
Over the years, I have trained in many counselling models but strongly believe that no matter what model a counsellor works from, the most important ingredient in therapy is the client-counsellor relationship. I work from a trauma-informed perspective.
